We are pleased to announce the following profesional development oppoportunities  in April and May 2016, divided into the following categories:

1. Development workshops

Practical Thinking for Researchers  4th May  09.15 – 16.30

Delivered by: Dr Adrian West.  This workshop is about the craft of “thinking” and the different ways we can approach that systematically to be more effective thinkers. We will look at the different kinds of thinking we need to do and practical tools that develop our ability to think rigorously, progressively and creatively. To do this we will take a broad sweep touching on approaches that are valuable for your particular situation and for working in teams.

Webinars: We are planning a repeat of the webinars previously offered in May. Dates and booking will be provided in the next 2 weeks, >> Further details

Facilitation course: We are intending to offer a webinar  and two further half day workshops in May to cover facilitation skills in a new pilot project. Further details will be announced soon.

Further workshops are listed on our Interim booking arrangements  list, but these workshops are full or close to capacity.

2. Communicating Research: a multi-media online event – Call for registration

3rd May – 20th May – open to all postgraduate researchers at Liverpool

This event is an online opportunity to display your research to researchers outside your research area, or to a wider public and replaces the event offered previously as ‘Poster Day Online’. The event has two parts:

  • The Three Minute Thesis competition    >> Further information
  • A separate area for submissions in other formats including,  online poster submission, video, a multi-media format, web pages  >> Further Guidelines

There will be opportunities for online discussions in both areas of the event, facilitated by email notification,  to help you interchange knowledge and experience for researchers in different fields.

3. Career workshops and online portfolio

A 6 week Online course to help you prepare for your ongoing career and to develop a personal career plan.

Introduction to Entrepreneurship     15 April – 09.15 – 16.30 hours

Delivered by Dr Jen Allanson and Dr Nathan Ryder.

Successful researchers are enterprising researchers. Enterprise skills are highly sought after by to academic employers. Academics sometimes start businesses alongside successful academic careers. Others leave the academy and use the skills they’ve gained to start up independent businesses.
